For salons and barbers

How salons and barbershops get recommended by ChatGPT and other AI assistants

People ask AI for the specific thing they want: a barber who does fades and takes walk-ins, a salon that specializes in curly hair or balayage. Assistants find those from your booking pages, Google profile, reviews and website. Shops lose the recommendation when their specialties only live in Instagram photos.

What customers ask AI

Real questions, the way people type or say them:

  • “Barber near me that takes walk-ins”
  • “Best salon for curly hair in [city]”
  • “Balayage specialist in [neighborhood]”
  • “Kids’ haircut near me open Sunday”
  • “How much is a men’s haircut at [your shop]?”

Where the answers come from

Assistants build answers from a handful of sources. Which ones they cite varies by assistant, city and week, so treat this as the list to get right, not a ranking.

  • Google Business Profile. Hours, booking link, services with prices, and reviews that mention stylists and specialties.
  • Booking platforms. Booksy, StyleSeat, Vagaro, Fresha and similar pages list services, prices and availability in a readable form.
  • Yelp. Reviews frequently cited for “best salon” and “best barber” questions.
  • Your website. Services, prices, walk-in policy and each stylist’s specialties in text.

What AI gets wrong about salons and barbers

  • Walk-in policy. “Takes walk-ins” is a deciding question for barbers, and it’s rarely written anywhere.
  • Specialties. Curly hair, color correction, braids, fades: if it’s only in photos, an assistant can’t match it.
  • Prices. Old prices on a booking platform or directory get quoted as current.
  • Stylists who’ve left. Clients asking for a stylist by name get sent to the wrong shop.

Fixes that change the answer

  1. State your walk-in policy. “Walk-ins welcome” (or “appointment only”) in your Google description, website and booking page.
  2. Name your specialties in words. Add them as services on Google and your booking platform, and mention them in your site’s intro. Photos can’t be searched.
  3. Keep one price list. Update prices on your booking platform, Google services and website together.
  4. Ask for specific reviews. Reviews that say what you did (“best skin fade I’ve had”) help assistants match specific questions.

Questions salons and barbers ask us

Does Instagram help me show up in ChatGPT?

Not much on its own. AI assistants mostly can’t read Instagram. Put the same specialties and prices on pages they can read: Google, your booking page and your website.

Which booking platform is best for AI visibility?

The one you keep up to date. What matters is that services, prices and hours there match everything else.
